Water Day

Water day was a blast! It was a bit cloudy but it was still plenty hot. The children had so much fun and this is definitely an activity we will be doing again before summer's end.

Training

This week LuAnn and Andrea are attending a ten hour training course in the evenings put on by Child Care Resource and Referral. We found this quote from the Advanced Child Development class to ring especially true!

"From the perspective of attachment theory, our goal is not to help children become independent; it is to help them become appropriately dependent. We must help them develop enough trust in themselves to approach problems with a sense of competence and enough trust in adults to accept and seek our help when needed."

New Websites

Take time to check out some of the new websites we've added on the left sidebar. If you have some time to fill, spend some time with your child exploring outer space or learn some new tongue twisters together.

Bye Bye Bean Plants!

Our bean plants are all grown up and ready to go home to be planted in flower-boxes and gardens.

Here is one last look at some of the children caring for our "babies".

Ready to be Potted

Check out how big our bean sprouts have gotten! The children have enjoyed watching this "magic" unfold before their eyes. We all love to say together, "The roots grow down and the stem grows up!" Through this process the children have learned to identify the different parts of a plant such as the roots, stem, and leaves. Now our little sprouts are ready to be potted in some soil. Stay tuned...

New Table

Last week our new child-sized picnic table came (some assembly required). As luck would have it, one of our topics for the month of April was construction and building things. So I had plenty of helpers for this project.

We have been enjoying our new table nearly nonstop since its arrival.

Butterflies and Bean Sprouts

These are some of the activities we did this week that go along with our April topics.

The children worked on their fine motor skills while making butterfly necklaces.

 Check out all that concentration!

And focus!

After a discussion about how plants and trees grow from seeds, we made "greenhouses" for our lima beans.

Trying to select just the right bean and inspecting each one before putting it in the "greenhouse."

We will check the progress of our beans daily and we encourage you to ask your child about what they have observed.

Watch Me Sing

This is another song the children love from the "Watch Me Sing" CD. It's called "When I Sing La La La."

"See Me Run!"

Sometimes when the weather's cold and grey, we like to get our energy out by moving to a fun CD called "Watch Me Sing" by Janeen Brady. These pictures were taken during the song "See Me Run".

"See me run. Running around in circles…"

"Running and running. Running around the room…"

"Now I hop. Hop, hop, hop…"

"See me whirl. Whirling around in circles…"

"Whirling until I drop, then stop!"
