Henry Pig
Henry Pig loves to work on his farm. He plants seeds, feeds the animals, and mends the fences. But the thing he likes to do best of all is eat the corn he grows in his garden. After Henry plants the corn in the springtime, he checks it every day to see how it is growing. When the corn is ripe, Henry picks it, shucks it, washes it, and cooks it.
Henry eats corn on the cob, creamed corn, baked corn, corn casserole, and corn muffins. Henry never gets tired of eating corn!
One day, Henry's neighbor, Farmer Sam, brought Henry a basketful of fresh vegetables from his garden. Farmer Sam brought tomatoes, squash, carrots, and potatoes. As a thank-you gift, Henry gave Farmer Sam a basketful of corn!
That evening for dinner, Henry cooked some of the vegetables Sam had brought over. Henry liked all of the vegetables he tasted, but he still liked corn most of all!

*This is the story that goes along with the bag of props your child made this month. Let them practice telling you the story of Henry Pig.*

Original Rhyme:

Listen to the Animals

Listen to the animals!
What do they say?
The cow says, "Moo,"
And the horse says, "Neigh."
The sheep says, "Baa,"
And the hen says, "Cluck."
Now who says, "Quack?"
Why, it's the duck!

Nursery Rhyme:

Once I saw a Little Bird

Once I saw a little bird
Come hop, hop, hop;
So I cried, "Little bird,
Will you stop, stop, stop?"
I was going to the window
To say, "How do you do?"
But he shook his little tail,
And away he flew.

*These are the poems we are working on memorizing for this month.*
